If cataracts are starting to interfere with the things you love, we’re here to guide you through your options with clarity, compassion, and expertise.
For many people, the early symptoms—like mild glare or occasional blurriness—can be managed with new glasses or brighter lighting. But when these changes begin to affect your daily life and hobbies, it may be time to take the next step.
Cataract surgery may be the right choice if you’re struggling to drive safely at night, read comfortably, recognize faces, or enjoy hobbies like gardening, reading, or golf. It’s a decision we make together, based on your lifestyle and goals.
At Chu Eye Institute, we take a conservative approach to care. That means we won’t recommend surgery unless it’s truly the best way forward.
Cataract surgery is one of the safest and most successful eye procedures in the world. You’ll be cared for by Dr. Richard Chu, a fellowship-trained cornea specialist with extensive training and experience in advanced cataract surgery.
Everything begins with a thorough evaluation. During your consultation, we’ll examine your eyes and their overall health, review your symptoms, and discuss how your vision struggles affect your life. We’ll walk you through available lens implant options and answer any questions you have.
The procedure usually takes less than 15 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis. During surgery, our Fort Worth ophthalmologist removes the clouded natural lens and replaces it with a clear artificial one called an intraocular lens (IOL). The new lens is permanent, and a new cataract cannot grow on it.
Most patients experience very little discomfort and notice vision improvement within the first day or two. Our team will follow up with you to ensure your healing goes smoothly. Follow-up visits help us track your progress and answer any lingering questions.
During cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is replaced with an intraocular lens, or IOL. This lens stays in your eye permanently and affects how you see after surgery. We offer a range of advanced technology lens implant options to give you the best possible vision.
There’s no one-size-fits-all option when it comes to your vision. During your consultation, we explain your IOL choices and help you choose the lens that fits your goals, lifestyle, and budget.
Are you a physician looking to refer a patient for cataract surgery? We welcome referrals and offer collaborative, timely care that supports your ongoing relationship with your patients.
